Dimboola has risen into the top four on the Dimboola and District Tennis Association ladder after a weather-affected round nine on the weekend.

The round kicked off on Friday night with Antwerp at home to Dimboola. Antwerp is sitting in the top three, whereas Dimboola, which has been in good form lately, is looking to sneak into the four before the harvest break, which is only two weeks away.

In the Mixed, Dimboola started very well, winning all but one of the sets and gaining the upper hand in the contest. The score was three sets, 34 games to the home side, one set, 22 games.
In the Men’s match, the visiting team completely dominated, only allowing Antwerp a handful of games. They went on to win four sets, 36 games to 0 sets, eight games.

The Dimboola Women finished the day off nicely, with another commanding win helping the team score the maximum points on the night. The score was four sets, 36 games to 0 sets, 19 games.

The overall score was Dimboola: five match points, 11 sets, 106 games to Antwerp: 0 match points, one set, 49 games.

The weather on Saturday wasn’t looking good for playing tennis with some rain in the morning and into the early afternoon, so two games were called off due to wet courts and player safety.

The game between Jeparit and Rainbow went ahead, with Rainbow travelling up the road to tackle the Redbacks. Rainbow is outside the top four and needed the points to keep in touch.

In the Mixed, Rainbow came out on top, having a good win with four sets, 42 games to one set, 23 games.

The Men’s match was completely dominated by the visiting team, which had a huge win, six sets, 54 games to 0 sets, 18 games.

It was a bit closer in the Women, but it was still a good win for Rainbow. The score being three sets, 34 games, one set, 27 games.

The overall score was Rainbow: five match points, 13 sets, 130 games to Jeparit, 0 match points, two sets, 68 games.

So, after this week’s games, the top two remain the same, however, Dimboola has leapfrogged both Antwerp and Brim to jump into third spot on the table. Rainbow’s big win has kept them in touch with a spot in the top four.

Next week, in the last round before the harvest break, there are some interesting games to finish 2024, including big games between Dimboola and Rainbow, Antwerp and Hopetoun, and Arkona versus Brim game, the outcomes of which could determine who can challenge for a top-four berth.
