Dimboola and Antwerp go into the New Year break of the Dimboola and District Tennis Association season in the top four after they both enjoyed big wins on the weekend.
Round ten of the Dimboola District Tennis Association commenced on Friday with a big game between Dimboola and Rainbow at Dimboola.
Dimboola is in a rich vein of form and is climbing the ladder, winning games each week.
In the Mixed, Dimboola came out on top, winning 5 sets, 47 games to Rainbow 1 set, 25 games.
The Men’s match was a close tussle, with the home side coming out on top by a few games. The score was 3 sets, 47 games to 3 sets, 41 games.
However, in the Women’s game, Dimboola’s win was good enough to make it a clean sweep for the home side, with 4 sets, 44 games to 2 sets, and 28 games.
The overall score was Dimboola’s 5 match points, 12 sets, 138 games to Rainbow’s 0 match points, 6 sets, 94 games.
On Saturday, there were three games to complete the round; the first was a big clash between Antwerp and Hopetoun in Dimboola.
In the Mixed, Antwerp fired the first shot, taking it right up to the higher-ranked Hopetoun to ground out a good win, 4 sets, 36 games to 0 sets, 11 games.
The Men was much the same with Antwerp having another big win once again winning all the sets on offer; 4 sets, 36 games to 0 sets, 8 games.
In the Women, Antwerp finished off the day also winning all the sets, making it a huge win that was needed to keep that important top-four spot on the table. They won with 4 sets, 36 games, to Hopetoun’s 0 sets, 15 games.
The final score saw Antwerp have a big win gaining 5 match points, 12 sets, 108 games to Hopetoun 0 match points, 0 sets, 34 games.
The next game was important for both teams. Arkona needed a win to keep their faint finals chances alive, and Brim was looking for a big win to keep in touch with the top four.
In the Mixed, Brim brought their A-game to completely demolish the opposition with a big win: 5 sets, 45 games to 0 sets, 26 games.
The Men went the same way, with Brim recording a huge win, taking the game 6 sets, 54 games to 0 sets, 14 games.
It was much closer in the Women, with a couple of tie-breakers going Brim’s way and helping them to another good win. The score was Brim 3 sets, 29 games to Arkona 1 set, 28 games.
The overall score was Brim 5 match points, 14 sets, 128 games to Arkona 0 match points, 1 set, 68 games.
The final game saw top side Warrack travel to tackle bottom team Jeparit at the home of the Redbacks.
In the Mixed, Warrack came up trumps, having a nice win and taking the points with 5 sets, 45 games to Jeparit 0 sets, 18 games.
The Men went a bit the same way with Warrack recording another good win 5 sets, 54 games to 0 sets, 14 games.
In the Women, Warrack rounded out a good day for the team, keeping them in the top spot on the ladder, winning 4 sets, 36 games, to 0 sets, 10 games.
The overall score saw Warrack secure 5 match points, 15 sets, 135 games to the Redbacks 0 match points, 0 sets, 42 games. This was a huge win but much needed as there are a couple of teams breathing down their necks.
After round 10 the ladder has taken an interesting twist with Warrack still leading the competition but form side Dimboola has gone up another rung to occupy second place, Antwerp has moved back up to third however Hopetoun has dropped down to fourth spot with Brim only half a point from a top four spot.
Rainbow is still in striking distance of making a run at a place in the finals but faces the top sides in the last four rounds. The bottom two sides are probably too far back to challenge for
a finals berth.
This was the last round of tennis for this year, as harvest break has now kicked in. Round 11 will resume on Friday, January 31.
