The Jeparit Uniting Church community will be celebrating the centenary of the laying of the foundation stone of their current building with a special service later this year.

On August 16, 1925, Mr. James Menzies, a local civic leader and former trustee of the church, unveiled the foundation stone for the new building in the presence of a large gathering of local and district residents.

The centenary celebrations will take place on Sunday, August 17 this year, with a special service at 11.00 am, to which anyone who has had an association with the Uniting Church or its predecessors, the Methodist and Presbyterian Churches, is welcome to attend.

With attendances at regular services averaging just six or seven, the congregation has made the difficult decision to deconsecrate the building at this service and close the doors for the last time.
A committee is producing a booklet highlighting many aspects of the church and community over the last century, such as weddings, funerals, baptisms, and confirmations, but also exploring the tragic issues such as World Wars, the great depression, Spanish flu, droughts, floods and Covid-19.

Contributions from the community in the form of photographs, anecdotal stories, or other memorabilia deemed appropriate are also welcome.

Copies of any photos or other items can be emailed via the Dimboola Courier at news@dimboolacourier.com.au or Cam McKenzie at shambells1@bigpond.com .

For inclusion in the booklet, these will need to be received by the end of February 2025.
