Round eleven of the Dimboola and District Tennis Association recommenced on Friday, January 31, with the first round after harvest break.

The remaining rounds are full of intrigue as teams jostle for positions leading up to the finals. Can Dimboola maintain their run of form leading into the break, or can Brim or Rainbow push for a finals spot? Will Warrack keep their advantage on top? All questions will be answered in the coming weeks.

To start the round, three games were scheduled for Friday night; however, in the last week, Dimboola had to defend their town against the threat of bushfires from the little desert, with hot and windy days making things difficult.

The Dimboola versus Jeparit game on Friday night was called off, with teams splitting the points due to roadblocks in and around Dimboola and the air quality we are experiencing with the fires.
Brim and Warrack also split the points due to the expected temperature for Warrack on Saturday being above the 38-degree mark.

Two games did go ahead, with Hopetoun clashing with Arkona and Rainbow hosting Antwerp.
Hopetoun is sitting in the fourth spot on the ladder and needs to keep winning, with Brim only a few points behind in the fifth spot.

In the Mixed, Hopetoun started strongly, having a good win with three sets, 30 games, to Arkona, one set, 23 games.

In the Men, it was Arkona’s turn to take the points with a similar score line to the mixed, winning three sets, 33 games, to Hopetoun one set, 23 games.

The Women had a good tussle coming down to the wire, with Hopetoun just gaining the advantage with two sets, 32 games to two sets, 24 games.

The overall score was Hopetoun 3.5 match points, six sets, 85 games, to Arkona 1.5 match points, six sets, 80 games.

The last game of the round was an important one for Rainbow, needing to win to keep their faint finals hopes alive, with Antwerp also needing a win to keep Hopetoun at bay and to keep in touch with Dimboola.

Antwerp came up trumps in the Mixed, having a good win with three sets, 32 games to one set, 16 games.

The Men were in a close tussle on the day, with Rainbow almost getting there two sets, 29 games, to Antwerp’s two sets, 31 games.

Antwerp was very strong in the Women’s, having a commanding win of four sets, 36 games, to Rainbow’s, zero sets, and 11 games; this score gave them a great win to start their run home.
The overall score was Antwerp’s five match points, nine sets, 99 games to Rainbow’s zero match points, three sets, 56 games.

After the weekend’s games, Warrack remains on top, but with Antwerp’s good win, they have leap-frogged Dimboola to claim the second spot, with Hopetoun now on the same points as third place and Brim still only 1.5 points adrift in fifth spot.

Next week, we have a couple of interesting games, the Warrack v Antwerp and Brim vs. Rainbow, which are likely to make or break teams looking to grab a finals position.
