The last matches in the regular rounds of the Dimboola and District Tennis Association were played on Friday evening, with the heat rule coming into play on Saturday.

Due to the forecast temperature for Saturday being above 38 degrees, the two games scheduled for that day between Jeparit and Brim and Warrack and Dimboola were called off, the heat rule came into effect, and points were split between the teams.

With ladder positions pretty tight coming into the last round, points are like winning the lottery for teams looking to gain an advantage for the finals.

The first game saw Hopetoun up against Rainbow, with the home side needing more points. Brim was looking to sneak in at the death knock but needed results to go their way.

In the Mixed, Hopetoun prevailed on the night, taking the points with five sets, 45 games, to Rainbow’s zero sets, 20 games.

The home side also dominated the Men with another good win six sets, 54 games, to zero sets, 19 games.

In the Women, Hopetoun was able to finish the night off by securing the points in a huge win defeating Rainbow three sets, 33 games to one set, 19 games.

The overall score was Hopetoun five match points, 14 sets, 132 games to Rainbow zero match points, 1 set, 58 games.

The other Friday night game was also a big one for Antwerp as they were only half a point away from Warrack in the top spot and had a chance to leapfrog them heading into the finals.

In the Mixed, Antwerp prevailed in a top effort, dominating the clash from go to whoa, taking the points, five sets, 45 games to zero sets, and 16 games.

The Men were also a good win for Antwerp. However, Arkona’s men claimed one set in the loss, with the score being five sets, 53 games to one set, 25 games.

The Women saw a huge win for the away side, which went a long way toward giving them the maximum points on the night. The score was four sets, 36 games to zero sets, four games.

The overall result was Antwerp five match points, 14 sets, 134 games, to Arkona zero match points, one set, 45 games.

After their big win, Antwerp finished first on the ladder, two points clear of Warracknabeal in second place. The other two positions didn’t change, with Dimboola and Hopetoun securing a spot in the finals, finishing third and fourth, respectively, on the table.
