The grand finalists in the Dimboola and District Tennis Association have been decided after the first round of finals on the weekend.
The first qualifying Final was a clash between the top team, Antwerp, and the fourth-placed Hopetoun, but unfortunately, Hopetoun had to forfeit their match due to a lack of qualified players due to other functions in the area, which put Antwerp straight through to the Grand Final.
The second qualifying final was a big game between the second team, Warrack, and the third team, Dimboola, at Warrack.
Both teams have been relatively consistent this season, with Dimboola winning their first meeting in round seven, and their second encounter was abandoned due to weather.
With a place in the grand final and a chance to win the District Cup at stake, players and spectators were expecting some close tennis games in the afternoon.
The weather in Warracknabeal was ideal for tennis. In the mixed, Warrack got the upper hand and the first points on the day. Most of the games were hard-fought, with Dimboola unlucky not to pinch a couple of sets.
The score was Warrack four sets, 48 games to Dimboola two sets, 33 games. In the Men, there were also some pretty close games; However, the close ones went Warrackâs way as they enjoyed another win with a similar scoreline to the Mixed. Warrack won four sets, 44 games, to Dimboola, two sets, 42 games.
The Warrack Women had a great day out, not allowing Dimboola a chance to get back into the contest and only giving them the one set to finish the game off and a crack at the District Cup in two weeks.
Warrack won five sets, 52 games to Dimboola one set, 23 games.
The overall score was Warrack five match points, 13 sets, 144 games to Dimboola, zero match points, five sets, 98 games.
The two teams that will compete in the DDTA grand final have now been decided, with the top two teams, Antwerp and Warrack, will now battle for the 2024/25 title on the Dimboola courts on Saturday, March 15.
