Those attending the 2027 Wimmera Steampunk Festival in April next year will once again be able to travel to the event by rail.
Building on the popularity of the train at last year’s festival, the Seymour Railway Heritage Centre (SRHC) has released preliminary details of their Spirit of the Wimmera train that will visit Horsham, Dimboola, and Serviceton in conjunction with next year’s event
For those looking for a convenient way to travel to the festival, the train will depart Seymour on the morning of Friday, April 16, picking up at Southern Cross Station in Melbourne and North Shore in Geelong, before arriving in Horsham in the late afternoon, utilising their heritage train of original Spirit of Progress compartment cars, the Parlour car, and the classic N Cars hauled by two heritage diesel locomotives.
The tour will stay in Horsham for three nights with accommodation in local hotels, or patrons can choose the rail-only option and arrange their own accommodation.
Optional extras that will be also available to those not on the main tour will include the Steampunk Festival train shuttles between Horsham and Dimboola and return on Saturday, April 17, a rare trip to the Serviceton Railway Station on Sunday, April 18, for either a meal and entertainment or a historical tour visiting the Wolseley World War Two Inland Fuel Depot, the Overland Museum at Kaniva, and the Nhill Aviation Historical Museum.
For those who don’t want to wait for their fix of nostalgic rail travel around the Wimmera, the SRHC will be visiting in October this year with their Wimmera Shiraz & Jazz tour that will visit Horsham, Nhill, and Rainbow.
