The Yanac Hockey Club is celebrating 51 years of hockey.

Since 1975, approximately 740 players have registered and played on a Yanac team, and while currently there are three Yanac teams: Tigers, Women and Warriors, other teams fielded by the club have included Boyeo, Lowan Stars, and Eagles.

These teams have won a massive 47 Premierships and come runners-up 35 times.

The club now wants to bring together as many Yanac players, supporters, and friends as possible to celebrate its achievements, which began as a dream of two local women and is now a place to learn and love the game of hockey.

This will be a great opportunity to look back at how the sport and the club have changed over the years and to celebrate the successes of a big club in a tiny town.

On 8 August, Yanac are hosting round 13 of the WHA 2026 season and will also be holding a Back To for all past and present players, supporters and friends.

The day will begin with the Under 16 games at 9.30 am, and matches will continue throughout the day with the last game finishing at 5.00 pm.

The three Yanac teams will line up against their Warracknabeal counterparts, continuing a long rivalry dating back to 1980, when the Women’s teams from these two clubs met in a grand final for the first time. Since then, they have played together in nine Women’s division grand finals, seventeen in the Men’s/Open, and three in the Under 16 competition.

In 2026, the Yanac and Warracknabeal teams are currently leading the Open competition, with the winner on this day likely to claim top spot going into the finals, the Yanac Women can top their ladder if they keep winning, and the Under 16s are in a four-way battle for the higher ladder positions, and a win over Warrack will enhance their chances.

In the other matches, Horsham teams will play Nhill, and Kaniva will take on Dimboola across the three competitions.

Alongside the hockey action during the day, there will be fun hockey games at the ground, with everyone invited to join in. The Yanac canteen will be open for lunch and refreshments throughout the day.

Following the day’s hockey, there will be a roast dinner and memorabilia on display at the Yanac Hall. This will provide a chance for memories of the club to be shared and for friends to reconnect.

Dinner will be served from 6.30 pm, and all are invited to the evening’s festivities; anyone planning to come to the night is asked to register via the Google Form at this link.
