North Wimmera and Dimboola fire brigades turned out to a fire on the Geodetic Road just before 5.15pm today.

Three units from Dimboola and one from North Wimmera were quick to respond to the call, with North Wimmera taking control of the fire before the Dimboola crews arrived on the scene.

The fire started near a home close to the Dimboola-Minyip Road intersection and burnt a small area of grass. Firefighters extinguished it before it spread into nearby trees.

North Wimmera Fire Brigade members are pictured extinguishing the fire.

We can expect an earlier start to the fire season as most of the state has seen below-average rainfall this year. Forecast maximum temperatures are higher than average. This may result in an earlier start to the fire season, with the first Fire Danger Period for the fire season to commence in Yarriambiack, Mildura, Swan hill and Buloke local government areas on October 27.
