Construction of new skate parks at Dimboola and Rainbow looks set to be delayed until next year with Hindmarsh Shire Council readvertising the tender for their construction.

The initial tender period for the skate parks closed in early September but Council determined it was not able to proceed with any of the submissions and took the decision to readvertise the projects.

Hindmarsh Shire Council Mayor Cr. Deb Nelson said that Council is disappointed about the delay but wished to ensure that they choose the right contractor for the job.

"Obviously we are disappointed we were unable to appoint a contractor to construct the skate parks, however we believe that we need to attract wider interest in these projects to achieve the best long-term outcome for the Shire."

Further consultation with various skate park construction contractors has taken place with feedback suggesting that there is unprecedented activity in this area.

Skate park projects are currently being developed and funded all over Australia and many of the specialist contractors in this field are committed to projects through until March/April 2018.

While Council was hopeful of completing these projects in early 2018 it appears that construction won't commence before April next year.

The readvertised tender closes in mid-October at which time Council will review submissions.
