Teams will gather in Dimboola on Saturday for the penultimate round of the Wimmera Hockey Association regular season, and although with finals not far away, most teams already know where they stand, there are still several matches with outcomes that will influence the order of the finals. Damp conditions under threatening skies presented a challenge for players and officials at Warracknabeal on Saturday for round thirteen of the Wimmera Hockey Association season, and with some teams adapting better than others, some spirited matches were played. A recent study of the economic effects of events focused on the Wimmera River showed that the Peter Taylor Barefoot Water Ski Tournament earlier this year generated over $185,000 for the local economy. Despite some cool weather, Dimboola’s Christmas in July event exceeded expectations last Friday evening. As teams gear up towards the Wimmera Hockey Association finals later this month, some great hockey is being played as they jostle for the best position to pursue their premiership aspirations. Police are appealing for public assistance to help locate missing teenager Talisha. The 14-year-old was last seen in Horsham on Sunday 24th July. A cool and damp start to Saturday did not detract from the significance of results to some teams when round eleven of the Wimmera Hockey Association season was played at Kaniva on Saturday, and as the weather improved throughout the day, so did the intensity of the hockey. The Dimboola Recreation Reserve will be one of five venues to host the Wimmera Football Netball League finals this year. The Wimmera Roller Derby League held a ‘Come and Try’ in Dimboola last Monday evening. Forest Fire Management Victoria and Country Fire Authority are currently conducting a planned burn west of Pimpinio. The leading two teams in each of the three Wimmera Hockey Association competitions registered wins in round ten on the weekend, but there is still plenty of interest in the jostle for position as the finals approach.
