Dimboola’s Lloyd Street is much brighter at night, following the installation of solar powered
security lighting.

The eight lights and three solar panels have been installed following Hindmarsh Shire Council’s
successful grant application through the Victorian Government’s Community Safety Fund, with
funding also provided by Council and the Dimboola Town Committee.

Hindmarsh Shire Council Mayor, Cr Ron Ismay said “the solar powered lights have made a
significant difference to the footpath lighting on the underside of the verandas in Lloyd Street. The
lights have a sensor that when approached they become brighter and then dim again once you
have passed”.

Cr Ismay added “The installation of these lights is seen as a case study as there are plans to
install something similar in other towns”.

The lights and solar panels have been installed by local contractors on behalf of Council.
“On behalf of Council, I would like to thank the business and building owners and the Dimboola
Town Committee for their support and cooperation in enabling the lights and solar panels to be
installed. Their assistance has certainly made the task easier” added Cr Ismay.

In further developments for Dimboola’s CBD, twelve new seats will be installed in the near future
to replace the existing concrete and timber seats. The new seats will have a powder coated steel
frame and fitted with modwood (composite plastic and timber) slats and will be located where
existing seats are.

Once the new seats have been installed the concrete and timber seats will be strategically
relocated around Dimboola.

Cr Ismay said, “I would like to thank the Dimboola Town Committee for their support in identifying
the style of seat and selecting the locations where the new seats are to be installed”.
