Hindmarsh Shire Council voted at a special meeting on Wednesday to apply for funding for infrastructure upgrades at Davis Park in Nhill through the Community Sports Infrastructure Program.

The need for infrastructure upgrades at Davis Park has been a topic of discussion for a number of years, and the demolition of the grandstand (above) after it was declared structurally unsafe last year reinforced this need.

Discussions have been taking place between the Nhill and District Sporting Club (NDSC) and Hindmarsh Shire Council for some time concerning funding for upgrade works, with the NDSC noting at a meeting in December last year that upgrade works be prioritised.

The NDSC committee met last Tuesday and confirmed that they are committed to a development of Davis Park and have agreed to contribute at least $50,000 to the project.

Hindmarsh Shire Councillors voted in favour of applying for funding through the Community Sports Infrastructure program, as well as allocating $300,000 to the project. This sum is comprised of $200,000 from the Federal Government’s Local Road and Community Infrastructure program and $100,000 of Council funds.

The application voted upon this week focussed on upgrades to facilities at Davis Park to facilitate increased participation with AFL and Netball Victoria compliant changerooms.
