The Blackheath-Dimboola Bulls had a day they would rather forget on Saturday when they came up against Homers in the last of the regular Twenty20 matches Horsham Cricket Association’s B grade competition.
After travelling to Horsham to play on the Sunnyside ground, the Bulls batted first and were in trouble early, losing two wickets before the team had reached double figures.
A recovery of sorts saw them reach the 40s with only five wickets down, but the loss of the remaining five wickets for just six runs saw the innings end on 47.
The scoresheet was dominated by Sam Polack’s innings of 20 and Sundries with 17.
Despite the small target, Homers also found batting difficult, getting into trouble at 6 for 28, but a match-high unbroken partnership of 20 for the seventh wicket saw them pass the Bull’s total in the 15th over.
Elliot Braithwaite opened the bowling, and from his four overs, took three wickets while only conceding 12 runs. Brodie Cramer and Robert Somers took a wicket each, and there was one run out.
Blackheath-Dimboola finished just one win behind the leading teams in the Twenty20 competition, but with the top four teams finishing equal on points, it was Laharum and Lubeck-Murtoa who had the superior percentages and qualified for the grand final.
On the overall ladder, the Bulls are a win and percentage clear in fourth place and with their last four games against two teams lower on the ladder and two against teams above them, are ideally placed to consolidate a place in the finals.
Next weekend the Bulls take on the seventh-placed Rupanyup-Minyip at Minyip
