Nhill is the latest local library to receive state government funding for upgrade works.

Member for Western Victoria, Jaala Pulford, has announced that Hindmarsh Shire Council will receive $87,500 from the Victorian Government’s Living Libraries Infrastructure Program.

This funding will pay for a full revamp and upgrade of the Nhill Library building, making it a lighter and more welcoming space for library visitors of all ages.

There will also be more room for popular programs such as kids’ story times.

Hindmarsh Shire also hopes to increase engagement with people from diverse backgrounds, including growing numbers of Karen people from Myanmar who live in and around Nhill.

Libraries have been a focus for this government, with a record $56.9 million allocation to libraries under the 2020/2021 budget.

The Dimboola Library upgrade was opened in February this year, while works are progressing on the construction of a new library in Rainbow. Jeparit’s new library space is nearing completion.
