Better access to library services will be one of the benefits to the residents of Jeparit and district following the completion of works on the new Jeparit Customer Service Centre and Library.

The addition of a library space, replacing the previous mobile library model which visited two hours fortnightly, will provide Jeparit residents with access to library services one and a half days per week.
This project is part of an overhaul of library services in the Hindmarsh Shire, which also includes Dimboola’s new library that was opened earlier this year, and the new library being constructed in Rainbow.
Externally, the building retains its same historical charm, and in line with the Heritage Permit needed for works to take place it is now easier for people regardless of their mobility to enjoy the centre with extensive changes to the layout seeing a new entry being created on the south side of the Hall.

A new All Abilities Accessible pathway, ramp and deck leads to an automatic door.

Inside, visitors are welcomed into a refurbished open plan customer service area which includes a new reception desk for Council staff and a desk with computer terminals providing the local community with free access to the internet.

A new doorway leads in to the library area, a multipurpose space shared with the local senior citizens group and the Blue Ball / billiards group.

A large selection of reading materials will provide plenty of choice for avid readers to while away the hours, all in climate controlled comfort with a new heating and cooling system included as a part of the development.

A new kitchenette including a freestanding oven has been installed, along with greater protection of the billiard table.

The meeting room on the north side of the hall has also been enhanced with the addition of an internal access door that provides direct access to the foyer and library.

The Customer Service Centre and Library is open 9am to 12pm and 1pm to 5pm on Monday and 9am to 12pm Wednesday.

This project has been made possible with funding from the Victorian Government’s Living Libraries Infrastructure program and Hindmarsh Shire Council.
