The Melbourne Cup day public holiday will be observed on Tuesday 1 November this year in the Dimboola and Jeprait districts, but other parts of the Hindmarsh Shire will enjoy their day off on different days.
The Hon. Jaala Pulford, Minister for Small Business, has granted Hindmarsh Shire Council’s request to substitute days for the 2022 Melbourne Cup Day public holiday in the Nhill and Rainbow districts.
The localities of Rainbow, Albacutya and Kenmare within the shire will have their holiday on Tuesday, 11 October to coincide with the Rainbow A & P Society Show, and Thursday, 13 October will be a substitute public holiday for the localities of Broughton, Yanac, Netherby, Lorquon, Nhill, Glenlee, Kiata, Gerang Gerung and Little Desert within the shire to coincide with the Nhill A & P Society Show.
The remainder of the shire will observe Tuesday 1 November 2022 as a public holiday on the day of the Melbourne Cup.
The Dimboola A & P Society Show Day will be on Saturday, 15 October 2022, and the Jeparit A & P Society Show will be on the following day on Sunday, 16 October 2022.
