From 1 November this year, specific recyclable beverage containers will have a 10-cent deposit, refundable at container refund points.

A collection point will operate at the Lions’ recycling depot in Hindmarsh Street, where a reverse vending machine is being installed.

Refunds can be received either as a cash voucher redeemable at the Dimboola IGA, a digital refund directly into a nominated bank account, or donated to a participating charity.
Other nearby collection sites include -

The scheme targets beverage containers that most commonly contribute to litter and are often consumed away from home. This includes plastic soft drink bottles, glass beer bottles, soft drinks and alcohol sold in cans, and small fruit juice cartons.

When returned, the containers should not be damaged to the extent that they are unsuitable for recycling, such that the barcode can be scanned and the label can be read. Lids can be left on the containers.
Eligible Containers
  • Aluminium Cans
  • Plastic Bottles
  • Glass Bottles
  • Paperboard Cartons (under 1 litre)
  • Steel Bottles and Cans
Most beverage containers between 150 ml and 3 litres made from aluminium, glass, plastic, steel and liquid paperboard are eligible.
Not Eligible
  • Wine and Spirit Bottles
  • Milk Containers
  • Paperboard Cartons (over 1 litre)
  • Cordial Bottles

These containers may still be accepted in kerbside recycling.
There will be a variety of ways to return drink containers, including reverse vending machines (such as the one pictured above at the Lions’ recycling depot), depots, over-the-counter collection points, and mobile or ‘pop-up’ refund collection points.
