The Hindmarsh Shire Council is seeking public feedback following its decision to sell the Gerang Hall.
At their meeting on Wednesday, 8 May 2024, Council resolved to give public notice of its intention to sell Gerang Memorial Hall, Gerang-Glenlee Road, Gerang Gerung, under section 114(2)(a) of the Local Government Act 2020.
This is one of several buildings across the Shire that Council manages that are approaching or are at end of life. Issues with the Gerang Memorial Hall include:- White ant damage - Toilet block and kitchen dining area
- Friable Asbestos - Toilet block
- Drainage issues in the dining area
- Mould in the ceiling
The hall contains some items of historical significance to the community, such as honour boards and memorabilia, which will be removed from the property prior to the sale of the building.
In recognition of the community’s connection to the hall, Council will work with the former hall committee, local families, and other relevant parties to determine the future of the historical items.
Council is inviting interested residents to complete a survey to provide their views on this decision. Submissions will close at 5 pm on Monday 10 June 2024.
A community drop-in session will be held at the Gerang Memorial Hall between 4 pm and 6 pm on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, during which interested community members can discuss the proposed sale of the asset with Council officers.
