The first stage of a proposed multi-stage redevelopment of Nhill’s Davis Park is set to commence in coming months following the appointment of a contractor to undertake stage one construction works.

Stage one includes the construction of two AFL compliant change rooms including medical rooms, administration office and storage space as well as an undercover tiered seating grandstand at the front of the change rooms that will incorporate a media room and timekeepers’ room.

It is anticipated that onsite works will commence in early October 2024 and be completed by July 2025. While the new change rooms are in compliance with AFL Facilities Guidelines, the approved design will enable them to be used for hockey, cricket and other sporting activities at the ground.

The playing surface of Davis Park is considered one of the best in the Wimmera, and these improvements will support increased spectators and participation across a range of community sports including football, cricket, and hockey that all regularly play at the venue.

The redevelopment of Davis Park has been a hot topic for several years now, since the old grandstand was declared structurally unsound in 2019 and subsequently demolished.

Applications for funding to begin this work in 2020 and 2021 were unsuccessful.
“It is fantastic to now see the fruition of the hard work and many hours that the Nhill & District Sporting Club Committee and the Hindmarsh Shire Senior Management Team have put in to achieve a great outcome for the community. It is with this collaboration that we have satisfied the funding requirements to deliver such a fantastic project in a difficult economic climate that we are now facing. The undercover seating and state of the art change rooms will greatly enhance the visitor and user experience.”

- Hindmarsh Shire Council Mayor Cr Brett Ireland
Proposed future stages include new netball change rooms, a second netball court, refurbished or new clubrooms and increased power and lighting facilities. Council will continue to seek funding for these developments.

Nhill and District Sporting Club President, Rob Bell, said “The Nhill and District Sporting Club is excited that stage one of the Davis Park redevelopment is due to start in coming months. The Club would like to thank Hindmarsh Shire Council for their ongoing support to help this project go ahead”.

Construction of the first stage of the Davis Park redevelopment has been made possible with funding from the Federal Governments Local Roads and Community Infrastructure program, the Victorian Governments Country Football Netball Program, Hindmarsh Shire Council, and the Nhill and District Sporting Club.
