The Hindmarsh Shire Council was successful in their application to substitute days for the 2024 Melbourne Cup Day public holiday in Nhill and Rainbow.
The Hon. Natalie Suleyman MP, Minister for Small Business, has granted a full day Public Holiday in lieu of Melbourne Cup day in the following -- Tuesday 15 October 2024 - The township of Rainbow, and the localities of Kenmare and Albacutya for the Rainbow Show on .
- Thursday 17 October 2024 - The township of Nhill and the localities of Little Desert, Gerang Gerung, Kiata, Glenlee, Netherby, Lorquon, Yanac, and Broughton on, corresponding with the Nhill Show.
- Tuesday 5 November 2024 - The remaining areas within the Shire will observe a full day public holiday on Melbourne Cup Day.
These arrangements are a great opportunity for local residents to fully enjoy the experience of their local show and appreciate the planning and preparation of the respective A & P Societies in each town.
The Dimboola Show will be held on Saturday 19 October 2024, and the Jeparit Show on Sunday 20 October 2024.
